Ecosystems of Mission Trails Regional Park- Field Trip

Program Details:

Within Mission Trails Regional Park, there are seven distinct ecosystems – places where living and nonliving things interact. Students will go on a one-mile exploratory walk through four of the park’s dominant ecosystems – coastal sage scrub, chaparral, oak woodland, and riparian. Students will have an opportunity to discover the differences between each ecosystem and learn why these differences exist. We’ll discuss animal species that may be found within each ecosystem (and, with hope, see some!), and identify soil composition. They will also have a scavenger hunt in the visitor's center museum and watch a film highlighting further the unique ecosystems in the park. The formal activities are from 9am to 12pm; families may stay to explore the area and amphitheater for as long as they would like. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the field trip ends.

Ages: This program is geared towards 4th-6th graders; however, all school-aged kids are welcome. It is not recommended for kids under 5. This field trip will be content heavy and includes a hike (we must stay on time and can't wait for lingering toddlers). If you have younger children, it is OK to wait at the visitor's center or explore on your own while the field trip is taking place. When registering, please do NOT include kids under 5 in the headcount.

Registration: Registration deadline was December 19th. We are no longer accepting sign ups.

Payment: This is a free program; however, since space is limited, a $5 deposit is required. The deposit will be refunded when you arrive at the event. If you no-show, you will forfeit the $5 deposit. Please Venmo @Katrina-Phruksukarn (cell 619-201-3566).
