About the event

Come join us in the tradition of picking apples in the historic town of Julian!  Julian was established as a gold mining town in the late 1880's and has kept its old western charm, making it quite the fun town to explore!  With its various apple farms, the town has also attracted visitors for decades during its apple picking season.

We will meet at Volcan Valley Apple Farm (1284 Julian Orchards Drive, Julian, CA 92036) at 10:00 AM and enjoy picking apples!  Some are great for eating raw, and some for taking home to make your own apple pie!  I am told this farm also has fantastic fresh apple cider.

Around noon, we will make our way down the hill to the town of Julian for lunch (whether packed ahead or bought out) and to explore!  The idyllic town is about 4 blocks all in all, so families can fairly easily see much of it.  Some notable places are Old Julian Book House, Julian Cider Mill, Julian Apple Pie Co., Mom's Pie Shop, Eagle Mining Co., High Peak Mine, and The Warm Hearth gift shop.

My family will stay and explore likely into the late aternoon, and we look forward to having you join us for any and all of it!  Come prepared for a range of weather as it can get quite hot and quite cold (hat, sunblock, cool and warm layers, even an umbrella).  My family will also bring a backpack, plenty of water, packed lunch, snacks, perhaps even extra clothes for our kids just in case.  Julian is about an hour and a half east, so could make for a great day trip for the whole family!

If you'd like to enrich your child(ren)'s experience, you may enjoy reading with them beforehand about California's Gold Rush, Johnny Appleseed, and Julian's history.  I will be nerding out and doing that with my kids!

As if there aren't enough notes... pricing! The biggest upfront cost, aside from gas, will be admission to Volcan Vally Apple Farm. It costs $15 for one person with an apple picking bag, then $5 for each additional person. And finally...
