Let's Create! Walking Sticks!
Let's kick off the year by letting the kids create their very own hiking stick! I'll have a couple of examples to show and a handful of sticks if you don't have one. See additional details on what to bring!

About the event
Let's create hiking sticks! Please bring a sturdy, mostly straight stick to decorate. The stick should be no taller than the user's shoulders, about 1 1/2" thick, and as straight as possible. The stick should be light but sturdy. A stick or branch with smooth bark is best. I'll bring paint, yarn, and string to decorate. If there are other items you'd like to include from your nature collections or art supplies, please feel free to bring those as well.
In the meantime, here is a great link for some inspiration if you'd like to read up on making a hiking stick beforehand.

I will also have my Exploring Nature Activity Book which provides great instructions on pages 12-13 (in case you have the book).
There is street parking and you can park in the elementary school parking lot right next door. There is a gate that leads from the parking lot into the park. This is also a great playground for after the kids are done with their sticks.
