Habitats & the Kumeyaay of Mission Trails Field Trip Content: Awareness of where we live in relationship to San Diego’s cherished wildlife is the focus of this outdoor education program. The concepts of habitat and the four elements necessary for one – food, water, shelter, and space – are discussed in an introductory presentation. Students will take a guided walk through some of the park’s native habitats to see where some of Mission Trails’ many inhabitants live, as well as learn about how the Kumeyaay, our region’s indigenous people, and their ancestors lived in these very same habitats. Along the way, Kumeyaay usage of native plants and wildlife resources will be discussed. The cultural and social customs of the Kumeyaay will also be covered.
This program begins and ends at the park’s Visitor Center. Bring snacks, lunch, and water. Wear closed toes shoes.
Ages: This program is geared towards grades K-4, but children ages 4+ are welcome. If you have younger (or even older) children, it is OK to drop off and explore on your own while the field trip is taking place.
Registration: Registration deadline is April 18th.
Payment: This is a free program; however, since space is limited, a $5 deposit is required. The deposit will be refunded when you arrive at the event. If you no-show, you will forfeit the $5 deposit. Please Venmo @Katrina-Phruksukarn (cell 619-201-3566).
